I was given a 30 gallon freshwater tank and I think I'd like to get a few
puffers. Are there any other fish that would be compatible with the
puffers? Also does anyone have any helpful info on the puffers since I have
never tried them before? Thanks much.

In general, these require a species tank.

IMO, they can only be mixed with others of their species or larger cichlids.

The freshwater puffers I have had were aggressive and ate any fish they
fit in their mouth. They also nipped the fins of anything that didn't
nip them back harder.
