I recently set up a 10,20 long and a 29 gallon tank. I tried cycle and
special blend. the 10 and 20 took over a month to cycle with still a trace
of nitrite after a the month. The 29 was stuck in the nitrite part of the
cycle with the nitrite off the scale for about 3 weeks, i did 5 gallon water
changes every other day that didn't seem to do much good. I think i put in
too many fish too soon, i was anxious. i lost a few because of being
anxious. I ordered some bio spira through the internet. It came fast wrapped
in a cold pack. The next day after putting it in,under 24 hrs. the nitites
in the 20 gallon were almost gone. The 2nd day,48 hrs. they were totally
gone. The 2 other tanks i put a bit in too and they were cycled the next
day. At least for me this stuff works !! I read reviews and their claims
like the other co.'s but the stuff works. I not selling the stuff or working
for them, just happy my tanks are finally cycled and i wanted to share my
expierence. If your anxious to cycle your tank this stuff worked for me.

Well, that's one more anecdotal data point. I'd still love to see
side-by-side results by a hobbyist like Donald Kerns tried last year,
but based on various reports I've read (including this one) I'm very
tempted to get a small pack of this stuff for my ten gallon betta
tank. Two of the bettas in it look fine, but the crowntail has
suffered quite a bit of fin loss since he's been put in, and
ammonia/nitrite numbers are consistently above zero.

Yes - the stuff works. I cycled 5 tanks with it and it works like a charm each
time. Tnak is cycled in 2 -3 days

Hi Larry . . . :)

I've used Bio-Spira several times with great success each time. I was
wondering, where did you order it from online? I'm going to be setting up
another 55 soon and am in need of some, but don't want to drive an hour to
get it.

Many Thanks in Advance . . .

Grrrr.

I went and bought some Bio-Spira yesterday for this problem tank. Last
night I figured I'd test the tank before putting it in, so that I
could get a rough feel for the before and after readings, to see if
Bio-Spira appeared to help.

Wouldn't you know it, the tank has finally cycled. I blew $15 on the
Bio-Spira and now I don't need it. I guess I'll have to convince my
wife to let me start up a new tank or two, so as to not have wasted
the money :)

Google for Bio Spira reveals it can be delivered
http://www.fishstoretn.com/
Site says:
"We ship via USPS or FedEx Priority mail with cold packs in order to help
keep bacteria viable... Canadian & other international shipments require
Global/International Priority or Express."
Anyone tried this yet?

Hi,
Yes, the fish store is where my order came from. It was fast and wrapped in
filter media with a cold gel type of pack in the center.
good luck,
Larry

Eric you NUT!
I told ya a little while back the the Joliet PetLand has this stuff for sale at
like $.69 for the 1 oz and $2.49 for the 3 oz!!!!
I've bought several bags of each size to have while I set my 75g and then also
on quarantine tanks, Betta tanks, etc.
I figure if they haven't figured out their mistake on pricing yet...even after
I told them (duh!) that at the Naperville store (same owner) is was about
$15.00 for the 1 oz, and $2?.00 for the 3 oz, then what the heck..buy a few
packs. = )
You should have driven a little farther.
I was just in the Naper store the other day looking for Crowntail Bettas and
they didn't have much to talk about.
I did , however, see some type of Cichlid that was absolutely gorgeous. It was
typical Cichlid body shape, but on the small side. Charcoal black with vibrant
orange fins.
Check them out the next time ya go.
There in the first, free standing wall of tanks on the left. Not the wall of
tanks that has the Bettas on though. = )

You've got Marineland BioSpira for $2.50/3 oz!?!?! Are
you sure? I paid $18 for 1 oz at my LFS several months
ago!

Grumble. Short attention span. Can't be helped. Grumble.

I've tried engaging their Fish Guy in conversation twice now. Either
he's very busy (possible) or just not inclined to talk to weirdos
(likely). He was professional and helpful, just not garrulous. But he
did give me some free Java moss, which was very cool.

Following my last visit there, if I had any room left all (and if my
wife would let me) I'd set up my 30 gallon for some of the gorgeous
cichlids they were carrying.

Yes!
Like I said in my other post, they have it priced wrong.
I even brought up their mistake when I was paying for the 3 oz. size (shocked),
I said "Don't you mean $24.00?". She said "Where on earth charged you that much
for it?".
So I bought it, and then went home and called several other stores that carried
it. All had the higher prices, so I must assume the Joliet, IL store has just
underpriced themselves terribly.
They'll figure it out when inventory time comes around and the books aren't
right either. = /

That's cool (Java Moss). I will quickly be over run by it, as I bought a tiny
clump a few months ago to toss into my male Betta tanks. I haqd enough for one
tank at first, and in only that short time, they ALL have it in their tanks. =
)
The main person I talk to at the Naperville store is a guy with really bad
teeth, named Mike.
At first I didn't care for him, as he, as well as most shop employees, believed
all the myths about Bettas (prefer to live in tiny cups and live in tiny mudd
puddles in rice paddies ::rolls eyes::). He also called them "Betas" as still
does. He catches hell from me weekly for it. LOL
He sneaks up behind me and wispers.."Beta Beta Beta!"
He is a bit of stinker. = )

See, now, I've been looking all over for it, since none of the local
stores seem to carry it (except for this PetLand, which kept it in a
goldfish tank, and why the heck would I be looking in a goldfish
tank?). If I had known you had a bunch, I'd have talked you into
setting me up. Just leave the briefcase by the mail box at the train
station. Come alone - no cops.

>He also called them "Betas" as still does.

I'm trying to break myself of the habit, I confess. As a programmer
(and Windows user, for that matter) the term Beta comes naturally to
me.

ROFL!
There's only one other store around that has the Java Moss, and that's
Hobbyland in Joliet.
They don't even have it where you can see it. It's in a tank up near the
ceiling.
Like who's going to know it's up there.
I just finally asked if they ever get it and she said they always have it...a
ton of it.
I then picked my chin up and walked over to the register. = )
I love this stuff for spawning Bettas and it's not commonly found in shops.
It's also a great plant for my 1g..unfiltered male Betta tanks. It's only a pain
in the butt at water change time, as bits of it seem to be always present.
What I don't scoop up with a net settles down quickly and looks like it was
supposed to be there.
For these tanks I took wads of the Moss and formed little balls for each tank.
It quickly branches out, yet stays in place.
Next time ya need some, just drop me an email. (although I may do the same one
day) = )

Wisteria, Najas, Broad Leaf Ludwigia, Rotala Indica, Sunset Hygro or
algae. :)

I ordered 3 - 1oz packages of Bio-Spira (they were out of the 3oz size)

I paid via PayPal, received a receipt but haven't heard any further on my
order. I'm keeping my fingers crossed here guys . . let's hope I hear word

I bought my bio-spira twice from them, the 1st time took 3 days after i
placed the order, the 2nd 2 days. They use some sorta gel-type cold pack and
wrap it up in what looks like filter media then put it in a prioriy mail
carboard box. It arrived still really cold both X's. I'm located in MA. so
your shipping time might be different.

Hi Larry . . . :)

Thanks for getting back with me, it's appreciated.

I dropped a line to Bernie and asked him if my order went through alright.
He wrote back and said he received the order and plans to ship in the
morning. He said it would be here in two or three days. :)

Hi Guys . . .

I received my Bio-Spira today! :)

It was well packed and arrived "right on time" as I got my new tank tonight.
I popped the BS into the fridge and will use sometime this weekend when I
set up the tank.
