Usually you have to wait until they become pregnant, and look for the
obvious bulge... I'm not sure about swords, but guppies show a sign that
they are pregnant, and if you can see something that shows she's obviously
pregnant, then you can seperate her.. until then, she could just be fat from
eating... who knows...... but good luck

Hi Fishkeepa . . . :)

Just keep an eye on your pregnant female. From what I've experienced with
Mollies (another Livebearing fish) females can have several batches of fry
from only one successful mating. I honestly wouldn't keep the females in a
breeder for an extended period of time as the small cramped area may stress
them out unnecessarily. And unless you want to have many, many fry over the
course of time, I'd allow the females to have the fry in the main tank. This
way only the strongest/fastest fry will survive and you won't become overrun
with fish (unless of course, this is your goal . . :)

If you allow your females to give birth in the main tank, just make sure to
have plenty of plants in there for the fry . . . I recommend some Java Moss
(Vesicularia dubyana), which is a low-light plant that isn't demanding.

Hope This Helps & Good Luck! :)
