View Full Version : axolotl treatment

Ello,

Can I use the same treatment on axolotls that I would on tropicals?
I've got three in a 30 inch tank and noticed that one has a small
amount of slime or something on his leg. I think it was that way
in the shop but I didn't notice :( It's whitish so thought it was
fungus but actually it looks more slimey - and he's not using that
leg very much, holding it up instead :(

I was thinking of using esha2000 - supposedly kind to fish and
filters and ok on cold and tropicals, but doesn't mention axolotls.
Manufacturer hasn't got back to me yet...

I've also had fun getting them to eat. On day 1 they ignored
frozen bloodworm so on day 2 I fed carnivore sticks - which they
will only take if I wiggle them by hand, and not from tweezers
or from the water direct! Day 3 I gave them frozen bloodworm again
and it vanished very fast :) So.. um.. fun fun.

They are ace, though. They are like little statues playing
Grandmother's Footsteps... every time I turn round they've moved,
but they're still static!

Before anyone mentions it, I've read caudata.org, inky's pages,
the Indiana Axolotl Colony site... the trouble is I dont know
where to get the specific US-centric treatments to which they
refer, I need some guidance on whether I can generally treat
axolotls as with fish, or whatever, rather than references to
specific products I might not be able to get.

Cheers,

according to this site http://axolotl.caudata.org/health.htm it says fish
remedies can be toxic to them.

Thanks, that's what I meant by having read caudata.org...

....it doesn't really cover what I need to know though, hence my
original request for info and personal experience.

Ah! It looks a bit better but not perfect. I put in a half-dose
of Esha 2000 (and watched carefully, they seem to be fine with
it).

I'll keep an eye but it's certainly no worse and seems a bit better.
Thanks :)
