View Full Version : I think it's a fungus; how do I get rid of it?

Hi,

This is my first tank (37g high), and it is only been 2 months, but the
water is okay (sample to my LFS confirmed my test kit). I get a white sort
of hairy growth on the bottom and a bit on the plants. Sometimes I get
clumps of white hairy balls that look almost like dandelion fluff. I did a
25% water change and vacuumed the gravel real well, but it started growing
back right away. I have some live plants, 8 tiger barbs, 1 walnut-size
mystery snail and 1 marble-size mystery snail, a red-finned shark, and 1
algae eating shrimp (added 3 days ago).

What do I have, and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
Dave (Newbie in NC)

That is uneaten food, and it's rotting. Cut your feeding WAY back for a few
days, then slowly increase it until there is little, if any, food reaching
the bottom of the tank. The fish won't starve if they don't get a tummyfull
at every feeding.
