View Full Version : My cat is going to die!!!

My largest Silver Shark was lying in the middle of the lounge room floor
this morning. His head was missing and there were teeth marks in his body.
I only have a 1" gap between the aquarium cover and the glass and I never
would have believed that the fish could get out or the cat could get in.
I'm still not sure how it happenned.

I was also surprised how small a gap fish can jump through. Most likely the
fish jumped out and the cat got it when it was flopping around on the floor.
My cats have done this too. Sorry for your loss.

I'm thinnking that fish jumped out as well. Don't be too hard on the cat.
It didn't go fishing through such a small hole, and only did what a cat would
do when a fish falls into it's lap.
One of my most prized male Bettas jumped through a hole that was 5/8" wide and
1" long! I couldn't believe he got through that, but he did. My cat NEVER
bothers my fish. However, while sleeping on my bedroom dresser, where I have
3--1g Betta tanks, She must have been preying, because the Gods plopped a fish
right in front of her.
She chewed on him a little and left him.
I happen tocome into the room later to find a chewed up, and bloodied (puncture
wounds) fish.
I was able to save him, as she didn't eat anything off of him, luckily!
He did have scars but lived a long time after it.
I did NOT punish my cat in any way, as she didn't go get him out and youcan't
punish an animal for doing what comes perfectly natural to them.

So sorry about your loss Jim . . . that had to be tough. :(
Is there any way you could keep the cat out of the room where your tank is?

Heres a trick,
Put a couple of drops of vinegar either on or around the tank, this only
works for a couple of days but the cats can't stand the smell of it!

Only someone who doesn't own a cat could ask a question like that :)
My cat goes where ever he wants - we mere humans are only here to serve
their wishes.

LOL . . . True Jim! :)
Well, I used to have a cat some years ago . . . but found out (the hard way)
that I was allergic. :( (this was before I started keeping fish).
