It looks like no one has responded here.
The gold nugget (L81) pleco is not a big algae eater. This fish prefers
meaty foods, but will rasp off any organic slime from smooth surfaces on
its hunt for richer foods. My nuggets tend to find a good amount of food
on their own, but you can feed them things like frozen/dry krill, shrimp
pellets (in moderation, these make a mess), large protein rich sinking
wafers including algae wafers (they're rarely entirely algae), and
vegetables like zucchini, banana, and whatever else your imagination can
come up with.
Sometimes you'll find these guys in shops nearly emaciated because the
staff doesn't know what they feed them. I've rescued a few gorgeous
specimens in bad shape and nursed them back to health in bare-bottom tanks
by feeding them primary shrimp pellets (easier for the fish to find and for
you to clean up in a bare-bottom tank).
