eheim media question

I just got a 2026 eheim and the instruction book says to rinse all the media in
lukewarm water when servicing. Wouldn't this kill off the biobugs in the
substrat media (the top layer)?? and the bottom layer as well ?

Use water from the tank. After you siphon out water into a bucket, rinse the
media in the bucket. Gently, as most of the gorp will settle to the bottom
of the bucket.
