Just got an eheim 2026 and I read they are supposed to run quiet - it is -
except every 5-10 minutes - the water makes a "gooshing" sound for 15 - 30
seconds. Can't see any air in tubing and primed the pump a few times and still
the sound.
Any ideas??
thanks.

It may be worth checking the rubber gasket - use Vaseline to ensure that it
is sitting correctly.

Let it run a couple of days, as it might just be a bit of air entrapment
in your new sponge. After that, applying a bit of plumber's grease
around any gaskets might help, and re-tighten all your fittings
(especially on the siphon hose).

You should never use Vaseline on a rubber gasket or o-ring. The petroleum
will destroy the rubber very quickly.

Silicon grease works very well. You only need a minute amount.
You can find it at plumbing supply stores and dive shops.

Cheers,

Michi.

Silicon(e)..

Silicon and silicone are two VERY different substances, good to discern the
difference.

Yes. Sorry for the typo -- I meant silicone.

I also had the same problem. I just tipped the filter itself to each side
slightly and that released the trapped air causing the noise. Only needs a
few seconds. Hope this helps

Check the seals between the canister buttom and the top, there is supposed
to be a large O'ring that seals the filter. Try to give it some of the
silicon grease that came with the filter. It sounds like the filter is
drawing false air in from somewhere.

Is the filter intake above an airstone by any chance?

Is the filter places below the tank or at the same hight?

I have a 2028 filter that sometimes requires me to tilt the filter a little
to displace the air inside, but thats primarily because the filter stands
next to the tank in a conservatory so the water table in the filter is at
the same hight as the tank itselfe.

Upstairs I have a 2029 connected to another fishtank and there i never has
to tilt it to let air out because the the watertable in the filter is well
belov the water table in the tank (about 70cm) which creates enough pressure
to displace any air almost imediately...

Eheims are great and usually very silent...
