View Full Version : Odd behavior for kuhlis?

Setup- 5.5 gallon, good water parameters, VERY heavy plant growth on the
bottom of the tank, AquaClear Mini. 4 kuhlis, 1 female betta
I've had kuhlis for about 3 years now. Much of the time they seemed to only
come out before the lights came on. The other times would be in the late
afternoon and then only poking their little noses out of the plants to snoop
around. Today I came in and noticed all 4 of the kuhlis were doing the
spaghetti dance. Never seen such activity before. Even when the lights came
on 2 or 3 of them would still be darting back and forth as well as up and
down the sides. I added the female betta last Friday. Now I am wondering if
the addition of the betta was one factor of the increased activity. I
really doubt the tank is overloaded with fish as the filtration is more than
adequate as well as the heavy amount of foliage. Comments appreciated.

Thanks.

This sounds a bit like the mass spawning frenzy some egg scatterers
go into. Does anyone out there have any experience with breeding
kuhlis? Did this type of thing happen?

I've bred Kuhlis, but I have to admit that I never noticed anything
different. They always dance when acclimating to a different set-up (or
some kind of change). Another possibility is that you are having or
about to have a significant weather change. Where do you think Weather
loaches got their names from?
