One of my pygmy corydoras has a small white spot near his tail. He hasn't
shown any signs of scratching and it's just this one very tiny spot. I'm
very inexperienced so I don't know whether it is actually Ich or not,
especially as it's just this one tiny white dot. The only other symptom
I've noticed is that he looks to have grown a little less than the other
corys in the two weeks I've had them. He is active and appears to be
eating. None of the other fish are affected.

Vitals:

112 L tank

Amonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = a little over 10 ppm
(tested just before weekly water change of ~20%)

pH = 8
GH = 18 dH

Contents:

2 cherry barbs
6 white cloud minnows
1 gold spot Ancistrus
3 ghost shrimp
5 pygmy corydoras

So should I treat for Ich? I don't have an isolation tank (yet) so am
worried about the stress of medication on the other fish. Or should I wait
and medicate if there is any sign that it's spreading (which would, I
presume, confirm Ich as likely). I'm really reluctant to interfere
unnecessarily and so don't want to medicate if I can avoid it.

Thanks for any advice

Lisa

My opinion, would be this, Prepare for it, but don't carry out the
treatement UNTIL you see more than just 1 speck, could be anything... When
ich shows up, you may see that ONE speck, but guaranteed the next day you
WILL see more... so like I say, be prepared, but not too quick... Consider
the treatment and what you'll have to do if you have inverts, plants, etc...
Think the process thru and if you need help with those considerations, we're
here....

Monitor, and prepare, but don't jump the gun....

Thanks for that. It's still just the one speck, still no sign of spreading,
so I'll keep watching for now...

And I'll keep reading and learning in preparation :)

Thanks again

Lisa.
