Hi Group: I have a question I would like to put 4 powerheads, 2 on each end
of my tank, and use a wavemaker to turn the power heads on and off. My
local LFS said that the Rios that he sells don't do good in that
application. They stick upon starting back up. Anybody have any good luck
with that type of application.
Thanks in advance. Bill

Check out the maxi jet 1200 powerheads, they are a very good
powerhead.

As to RIO, they used to be pretty darn crappy, but they have certainly
chamged things around. I run a lot of RIO anymore and never have any
problems with it.

MaxiJets are highly recommended for wavemakers that cut power.
And the Rios have a reputation of melting down and killing tanks.

Anyone tried the SEIO powerheads? The auto-sweeping nozzle seems like
it'd be ideal for a wavemaker type setup. Might not even need a
wavemaker with one of those actually. Kinda like a rotating fan from
what I read.

I have used alot of different powerheads in my aquarium maintenance
business. I have had alot of problems with Hagen's. As for Rios, they
used to have problems, but they have improved alot. The powerhead I
prefer are Via Aqua, they have ceramic shafts and almost never over
heat, even when run out of water.

Yes, I have 2 SEIO 1100 Powerheads. The nozzle doesn't auto-sweep but they
can be swivelled up and side to side.

Mine are fitted either side of 100 gallon tank and are on timers,
alternating at 6 hour periods (tides). They do the job but rattle when they
start up.

My friend has four in a 200 gallon tank, two for tides (6 1/2 hours) and two
for waves. They are all computer operated. They work fine but I find the
rattle a little distracting.

Thanks for your input. If they don't auto-sweep that kinda changes my
plans a bit. Probably not the one I'm wanting in that case.

I got one of these running...Pretty sweet.
I like the SCWD wave maker. All mechanical.
http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html

Just don't use the mag drive like he shows. That's what I did and
it's kinda still leaking around where the impeller is.
Get a pump that's better made for external use.
The SCWD will work with flow rates up to 1400 gph.
I got approx 900gph going though mine no problem.
Coralife looks like they make some nice mag pumps.
