Hey guys,
I'm getting ready to buy a medium size ( 6" across) green carpet
anemone for my 55 gallon reef tank. Currently 2 kinds of green star
polyps, xenia, and a small colt or kenya tree ( can't tell yet).
Scooter blenny, cleaner shrimp and a lemon peel angel. Angel seems to
be fine with the food I give him so dosen't really bother my corals. I
also want to get 3 small clowns ( ocellaris ) to go with it. Water
quality good. 30lb. of LR. I wanted some feedback on this decision as
this is the first anemone I will try to keep. Also can I get only 2
clowns or mabe even 1 for now and add a second and third later? What
size combination of clowns will get along in my tank. I was told to get
2 small and 1 large and they would be fine. Any thoughts would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any single clownfish keept long enough will turn to be female.
This sex change is irreversible! When you then add another
female (a fish from a tank where it was kept single) they will
fight and never settle. Same will be with two clowns kept in
one tank. One of them becomes female, the second will stay
male. If you add the third, you need to make sure it comes from
a tank with other, larger clowns, to be sure it is not another female.
It is best to buy whole group together, very small fish, and let
them determine pecking order on their own.
Also, check the compatibility chart for hosting anemones since
carpet anemone can be host to a limited number of clown types.

Anemone can "walk" or crawl and usually finds its best place on its own.
