View Full Version : Increasing my water circulation

I currently have 2 power heads in my 75 gal (85 lbs LR) and I would like to
increase the water circulation. I don't want to add another Power head, I
would like to get rid of the 2 I have and Use 1 MAG 1 drive with PVC tubing.
Basically the Mag would sit under the tank in the stand, the PVC would be
plumbed over the backside of the glass, and at 2 different areas of the
tank, the PVC would enter the water down behind the LR for added
circulation. My question is this: Where is the flaw in my project and will
this increase my water movement?

Peter I have seen one of these closed systems for circulation and it looks
pretty cool. The guy had a pick up pipe in the back going down below tank
level to a relatively lg pump and then Y back to the tank on each side.
So it was, no filter just a closed system with appropirate siphon breaks.
Did a nice job. Bill

Have you given any thought to installing a wave maker? No internal pumps,
and moves a lot of water around.

I built this one http://www.melevsreef.com/closedloop.html works great.
Only thing I would do different is use a different pump.
Still thinking about the Coralife external mag pumps.

I like that way that looks. Would it be a good idea on a 125 gallon FOWLR?

I can't see why it wouldn't.
I know rule of thumb: you want to turn your water over
10 to 20x's per hour. Higher number is more for a reef tank.
Especially with DSB. Keep all that junk up in the water column longer
so your filter can pick it up. Plus the fishies like the exercise.
The SQWD wavemaker works very well also.
100% mechanical.
