View Full Version : Emergency! Fin rot help, please!

April 6th 06, 07:19 PM
Hi, all.

One of my fish seems to have fin rot. I first spotted in a few days ago
and have changed the water twice, but today I got in from work and the
problem is MUCH worse. At the current rate, I don't think he's got too
long left.

Anyone have an emergency solution?

Thanks,

Keith.

Hello. I had a black moor with fin and tail rot a while back. I added
1 teaspoon of salt (either aquarim or non-iodized) per gallon. I did
50% water changes every day too. I did use Furanase antibiotic but
when he started to get it again recently I managed to get rid of it
with the salt water alone. If that doesn't work then net your fish and
put some peroxide on a cotton tip and apply it to the effected area
then apply some neosporin on the area after. Do this twice daily for a
couple of days. You should see some improvement by then. Just make
sure that you don't get it near their eyes and gills. I haven't had to
do this but have heard really good results from this. There are some
real experts on these NG's who have given me this great advice. Hope it
helps.

Uh, are you drinking form the same water supply as Koi lo? You come
off sounding like you have first had experieince in treating this
malady, then finish up with " I have never had to do this" yet you
proclaim this treatment to be so superb in its healing quality?

Yes Roy, I've been told this by people who are interested in helping
and not critisizing. If you check the archives lots of people have
tried this and have said it works. Keith need some advice urgently,
his header was 'Emergency'. You could always give us some of 'your
words of wisdom' instead of just dishing out your critisism. This is a
news group for people with questions, concerns and helpful hints. TRY
IT.

if you do the salt, also do the tub to tub method
http://weloveteaching.com/puregold/disease/treatment/trtmnt.htm#TUB_TO_TUB
it moves them away from the toxins in the water, away from any parasites they may
shed. just make sure the water is the right temp and is aerated. Ingrid

Well, I got some Mycaflix and that seems to have at least slowed the
rate of decay. I'll keep a close eye on him and my levels.
