I remove the pot and as much of the white stuff as possible.

If left in the pot the top shows above the gravel - not real natural looking
at all.

And they can grow to look a bit different in different tanks with different
fertilizers, lighting conditions and temperature. My swords look nothing
like they did when I bought them. They're now shorter and much fuller and
bushier (sideways growth).
