Some-one gave me a 10 gallon tank with heater, filter and pump, my
problem is with the heater, it never turns off, it just keeps on making
the water hotter and hotter. It has a red dial to adjust the heat I
have it turned to the lowest position, but it still stays on. I am
going to order a new one, but how can I keep my fish alive in the mean
time? Right now I am unpluging it when it hits 80 and plugging it back
in when it gets to 72, but, this cannot be good for my fish. BTW I have
2 Angelfish, and 3 black skirt bettas/

Thanks for any help,
Saphire

Best to go buy one at a local store before you forget to turn it off.
How warm is the room where the tank is? It might be okay to leave the
fish with no heat, safer than cooking them.

A regular heating pad taped to the back glass of the tank might get
you through the night. Cranking the room temperature should work.
Getting thee to a pet store ASAP would be the best solution.

the temp rising and droping like that is not good for them at all, to much
of a differnce. They may end up getting ich or a few other things, . It
might be better for the time being if you just leave it off, as long as your
house is not to cold it should not drop to much, I think a steady lower temp
is probably better then the constant changing of temps from high to low, for
the most part i think my tank that i dont have a heater in only has a few
degree's difference between night and day, and stays about 73-75.
Is it a pen plex heater? i had one that got lose after getting old, are you
able to turn it any further towards off, i think they can be screwed to
tight and caused to stay on. Do you mean black skirt tetras? You will end up
needing a bigger tank for the angels as they get bigger.

THROW it away. It's stuck and they cannot be fixed.

It has a red dial to adjust the heat I

If your home is around 75% or more they're better off than being boiled.

Right now I am unpluging it when it hits 80 and plugging it back

They would be better off if you THREW IT AWAY than keep the temp going up
and down like that.

Chuck it and go get a new one. The fish will cope assuming your
house is heated and you wont be too long getting a new one; they
would cope if you had a powercut and they will cope while you go
shopping.
