It is Hydra... a freshwater anenome... Somewhat bothersome, problematic with
fry and can cause a problem or be beneficial depending on your setup...
I did squish the one I saw, and I will be searching the tank high and low
tonite when I get home... afterwards, I will be doing a very largish water
change depending on what the kribs want...
IOW, not in MY tank you won't... No Hydra for me..

I'm jealous. I saw a couple of hyra in my tank a long time ago, but a
day later they were gone. I rather like them, and wouldn't mind seeing
more, but then I'm not interested in raising any fry in this tank.
Though, my new threadfin rainbows look like they might be inclined to
do their thing, which could change my mind on the subject.

Hey Eric
I too have threadfins, great little fellas are'nt they?. If you suspect
they're going to breed then throw some hornwort or Cabomba in as a floating
plant. The fry stay near the top most of the time and enjoy the safety of
the floating plants. Just wait till you see how the male displays to the
females, awesome, mine was doing backward spirals at one stage!!!

I just added 10 threadfins to my tank (I assume these are the same as what
my LFS calls "featherfins").
They are fantastic! They school pretty tightly, then spread out. The
alpha(?) (he's the biggest) every once in a while goes on display when the
honey gouramis or other fish get too close to the school. I haven't had
mine long enough to even think about breeding them, but if you have tips
on how to get the process started with these fish, I'd love to hear it.
Also, any tips on what to feed them? So far I've been feeding flakes &
the Bioblend pellets.

I've been making a point of crushing up some flake into almost a powder
when I feed my fish, since I've read that the threadfins have very
narrow throats. They do tend to chase after the smaller pieces of food
much more than the larger bits.

Unfortunately, I've never had any luck with the fine-leafed plants like
that. The tank is very heavily planted, but it's also horribly
overstocked (I knew the SAEs would get big, but I didn't know they'd
get that big, that fast). So, I wouldn't expect any small, yummy
defenseless fry to last long.

My male is doing his level best to impress her already, and his fin
flaring is very pretty.
Unfortunately, I have one remaining zebra danio who has been harrassing
the threadfins somewhat. Not sure what to do with him - maybe I'll put
him into my divided betta tank once I get it rebuilt.
