I'd like to thank Netmax for all his help and all the other people who
answered many of my questions. I'm fairly new to the hobby but have learned
a tremendous amount from this newsgroup and the archives. Take a look at my
lighting. It is a bit unorthodox but I like it. I wanted a hood that would
come off easily but which would also slide out of the way for feedings,
vacs, etc. I used plastic wood to raise the hood above the filter pipes. I
bought a light fixture from Home Depot and modified it. I screwed birch to
the top and used maple for the sides and oak for the ends. You can see the
lens of the light resting on this shim. I also have 2 powerheads for extra
filtration and a Filstar XP3 filter. This picture is a bit old and some of
the plants have yellowed a bit or have been eaten (I'm hoping an iron
supplement will help). I want to replace these plants with a hardier
variety.
I also have a loach, several gouramies, sword tails, barbs, eels, a shrimp,
a pleco, a elephant nose, parrot fish and several tetras.
Let me know what you think.

Nice pictures. I liked your piece of driftwood -- very artistic. Was that
a parrot cichlid and red zebra danios I just saw? I think the red zebra
danios are banned in Canada. :(

Hi,
Yes it was a Parrot Chiclid. He is very mellow and has a great personality.
Also, he was my first fish. I cycled my tank with him, made all my mistakes
with him, moved him from tank to tank and he always lived and thrived. He's
the terminator of fish. Anyway, I re-sized the pics. I put them up last
night in a rush. They are a reasonable size now. I also added a few more
on the light hood and would like comments on design and aesthetics.

Would you consider getting that clown loach a couple of buddies? They
really don't do well by themselves. He would also appreciate a cave to
hide in.

You mean the Glofish (red zebra danios)? I just saw them at PJ's in
Toronto, Canada. I think you just have to know where to find them and be
willing to fork over the $20 a piece they are asking.

Nice pics, just one suggestion... JPEG Optimizer, Paint Shop Pro, or Adobe
Photoshop.
Infranview is good to... They're almost a necessity when working with
images, they all allow for resizing and file size optimizing...

These I can download :o) Nice clean woodworking. I would have shielded
the edge of the lamp so no light escaped forwards. I don't like light in
my eyes when viewing the fish. Your office view is from the other side,
so perhaps you shielded that side. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Hi,
I actually thought about enclosing the fixture in a wood box but decided
against it. I like the look of the plastic lens against the wood trim. It
also lights the room so I don't feel so bad running all those lights. The
flourecent light is very tame so it doesn't hurt my eyes. Anyway, the
fixture I bought can be had for 61.00 with an electronic ballast. No
huuming or buzzing like my shop lights in the garage.

I bought another loach tonight and two coconut caves. Unfortunately, my
original loach looks a little stresses. I used PH down to lower the water
and he may have become stressed. I hope he makes it. He's huddled ina
corner right now. Not his usual self. Swimming and playing.
