Oil in my fish bowl!!

I've had a film of oil floating onto of my betta bowl for like 2 weeks
now. To begin with I thought it was because It was in the kitchen. So i
moved him, took everything out and washed it and rinsed the bowl in hot
water and then filled it put and waited over night before putting the
betta back in (after making sure there was no grease left) but after a
few days the grease builds up again. I started skimming water off the
top everyday and 2 days ago I actually took the whole thing outside and
filled it up with water so it overflowed so I could get rid of the oil
on the top.

Things looked ok for a while but today I just noticed there is a fair
bit of grease covering the water surface again. HELP!! What can I do to
get rid of it? I don't really wnat to have to clean everything in
detergent and am sure that's not even a good idea. I don't knwo where
the grease could be coming from? the plant?

float a paper towel on the water, it should skim the oil off. I've
had it before, my guess is that it came from the food. the filters I
have now disturb the surface enough that a film doesn't collect.

hmmm never considered it was food. I have been feeding a lot of frozen
blood worm but apart from that just those little betta bit things.

I've had this too - people told me it was most likely harmless. Don't
have it anymore because i have a big power filter and I leave the
bubbler on all the to break up the surface water.

possibly a protein layer - no huge concern - some surface agitation will
keep it at bay.

You know when my pacu died last year we noticed a layer of oil in the top of
his tank, I never figured out what it was, it had not been there in the
morning when we left, we always feed him at the same time, we went out for
the day and came back and he had died, he was old (but I think could have
lived longer) when my husband took him out for his funeral he noticed what
looked like oil.
