Lady has a large backyard pond. Looking at the temp requirements for this
fish, I dont see how it could survive even in our climate (Central
Mississippi). Opinions?

These are tropical fish. If the water drops below 70 in the winter where
she lives it will probably die.

If you lived down on the coast I'd say give it a try. I wouldn't try it more
than 70 miles from the moderating influence of the Gulf of Mexico. Lots of
folks keep pl*cos in ponds in Houston and most winters they do fine,
particularly in deeper ponds that don't have such quick temperature swings.
Still, a late winter cold snap usually does them in after a couple of good
years.

I have seen foot long pl*cos in Bray's bayou, but I'm not sure whether they
were recently released or had lived there for many seasons.

Feral tropical fish are pretty common here.
