Well, it was my impatience to setup the tank before I could get my hands on
all the decor I have planned for it. I just took delivery of about 1.5
gallons of sand, which I boiled and rinsed the muk off and finished 'scaping
the gravel substrat. As I was placing it ever so carefully in the tank, I
was proud of the fact that the sand distributed so effortlessly and no
residual muk to speak was added. However, it dawned on me from earlier
posting that I might have hindered the bacteria trying to establish on the
bottom's surface, or I might have invited trouble by covering it up with the
sand. If damage is to follow...crap..the damage is done. If nothing else
crops up, I chaulk it up to being lucky.

When I said I live in a village...I meant it. Its hard to get things in
this part of the country.
Sitting here with fingers crossed watching the cycle take
place....Thanks -ED

Must be nice to have sand add so easily. It must be coarse.

The bacteria will mostly establish in your filter so I doubt you set
your cycle back. BTW, be very gentle cleaning your filter while the
tank is cycling and don't change the cartridge. With only two bettas
and no live plants, you shouldn't need to clean it for a while.
