Ok,

So my tank still isn't cycled. The nitrites are at 0. But after adding
the "Cycle" additive the ammonia seems not to spike as hard, hovering
around 1 ppm. I really want to see some major nitrite although I realize
it is toxic.

I am a patient man, but I also like to look forward so...

Would it be possible in a ten gallon tank, fully cycled, to keep mainly
tetras and then a bottom feeder/catfish of some sort? Would they get
along OK? I want the tetras to be happy so I was thinking schools...I
have currently 3 black neons and 2 glowlights, and one forlorn
Harlequin rasbora.

I also want to add some natural gravel on top of the white, to let the
fishies have more of a natural environment. Can I do that gradually
once the tanke is cycled?

Thanks again for all the advice.

Cheers,

Fred

Hi, I'm not the person to tell you about the fish but I used cycle on
my 55g and never really got any big spike at all for ammonia or
Nitrites. I did have a small reading, like yourself, and then 2 days
later it was gone. The nitrates spiked and then came down. That was
it. The day I got a 0 reading for all 3 I danced around the kitchen.

Hope this helps
I love cycle

Absolutely. Most tetras get along very well. There are a couple of
nippers - serpae tetras and buenos aires tetras are notorious for being
nippy. Harlequins get along well with tetras too.

For catfish, I'd go with a trio of one of the smaller corydoras species.

Absolutely. You can even gradually remove all of the white gravel and
replace it if you prefer.
