Going to get the filter for my new tank on thrusday. What kind would
you suggest? It is a 36g Hex and I plan on having a mix of 4
a.agassizii and a.cacatuoides w/ 5-7corys in there. Just wondering what
would be the best option for a filter? hang-on, internal or canister?

Because hex tanks use shorter side panes, many HOBs will not hang off the
glass. I find external canisters work best with hex tanks, but make sure
the cabinet door opens wide enough for the filter to fit through ;~).

Thanks for that. I wil get the canister then. The guy at the LFS
mentioned the door issue too...if my door is too small i have to get a
more expensive canister...

I think that canisters are your best bet. Most HOB's won't work on a hex and
internals take up space. The Eheim Ecco is pretty narrow IIRC.

If you can find a UGF plate for your tank you could use a Marineland sponge
powerhead to do a RUGF.

or an air powered sponge filter....
not very good mechanical filtration but good bio and very cheap
