Oh I downloaded this OE quote fix (got to see if I can figure it out now)
With my 2 year old blue gourami I have two little blue gourami's and the 1
kissing gourami who has been living with the blue gourami's for over a month
now, in the last few days I noticed he is really bugging my 2 year old blue
gourami, he never did before, now he is kissing /sucking on the Blue
gourami's side, he just don't want to leave him alone, he is much younger
and smaller so you would think he would not continue to be such a pain, I
guess if he does not stop I will have to get rid of him, I did ask my
neighbor if she wanted him and she said she would take him, she has a full
grown pl*co in a 55 by him self which she wants to put in my 120g tank
because when he is straight up and down (top to bottom) in the 55g he dont
have enough room he is a monster, I have not decided yet if I will, but she
said if I needed to I could put Mr. kissing gourami in her tank with him.
Any chance he will stop or is it better to remove him, I don't see no marks
or anything on my blue gourami like he is being injured but he is defiantly
being annoyed.

My experience is that once they start being a pain, they will continue
to be a pain. Unless the behavior is because of mating.
I've had to remove all gouramies from my community tank. I've had
various blue and opaline gouramies get a wild hair up their butts. Once
they do, they seem to pick on anything and everything, even eachother.
I have had a good deal of success with one treatment. Isolate the
offender for a few weeks. Then reintroduce him to the others. In many
cases this can help. I've even just moved them to another tank with
other fish. That has helped also.

Maybe before getting rid of him i will try and put him out of the tank for a
couple weeks, i do like him, just not so much that my blue gets
stressed...Its a all gourami tank w/ 1 pl*co, i dont have any other tanks he
would *fit* in, I dont think the female bettas would like him, and the
goldfish tank is to cold, and he might eat my guppies....i got a couple 10g
in the basement he could hang out in for a while.
thanks

If it continues I would remove him. It may just be me but it bothers me to
see one fish being picked on by another until it stresses.... that stresses
me out!

The only gouramis I don't recall ever having a problem with were the pearls.
They left the other fish alone and even the females are pretty.

Hi Nikki -
It's going after the slime coat - starts out harmless but doesn't end

yes he is out of there today, I watched him close last night and he is
bugging him (the Blue gourami) often, the bad thing is he is much smaller
then the blue gourami, and younger, and new to the tank, you would think it
would be the other way around. When I got them I bought 2 kissing gourami,
the one that died a couple weeks ago (the jumper) used to keep this on in
check, when he died this one got silly and started to become aggressive..

I would guess your original was the "alpha" dominant fish...your new one
is now asserting his new position in the pecking order as an
alpha....moving him may/may not modify his behaviour.....but as per
Frank I would not leave him where he is....

Yeah, I have a ten I am setting up for him, but I don't want to leave him
alone for good, so I may look to re-home him, but I don't want to give him
to someone and then he goes and terrorizes their tank, he might be ok with
another kissing gourami bigger then him...I'm not sure what the right long
term answer is for him yet, but my 2 yr old blue gourami is now hiding
behind a rock (he is much bigger then the kissing gourami) but has always
been very friendly. I also have 2 baby blue gourami's in the tank and they
get along great with my old guy, so I guess I will look around four a home
for the kissing gourami, don't want to start another gourami tank, and a 10g
wont hold him long anyway, we are finishing the 120g but he can't live there
either.. ugh I'll figure something out.

You might try another 'mate' for it - just might stop it from being so

Moonlights!!! I'd forgotten all about them. :-)) Now that's another fish
I don't see in the LF stores anymore. I do see those beautiful dwarf
gouramis all the time, but they don't live longer than maybe a few months
for me. In the past I would try a fish 3 times - three strikes and they
were out!

My male Opaline Gourami was very aggressive and stressed out a number of
other Opalines (unfortunately some to death) - he has settled now (18
months later) with two female companions in a quite heavily planted tank
and lots of hiding places...

If you think, i can do that...they have more from the group i got those two
in. I have the gourami's in a 40g tank now, like i said the blue male i had
for 2 years and then i got the 2 baby blues when i got the kissing gourami's
but when that bigger one died this one just got mean, guess nothing else to
do. I'll grab another one and see if it helps and if not ill then put them
in the 10g for the time being, kissing gourami is still small.
I did add some salt, thanks frank

You do know how big kissing gouramis get, don't you (?) because by
their 3 year, 40 gals. isn't going to be enough room for a pair of
them, let alone any other fish. Kissing gouramis were one of those fish
that I didn't read up on because they were so common to see, even in
community tanks. We had a couple of pairs at the pet store years ago,
we ended up having to put into our 3000 gal. tank. Those things got to
be 14" to 16" long! ............. Frank

what gets large....gourami's? I don't know how big they get for sure, my two
year old gourami is not all that big, however my pl*co is growing, I had
posted some where yesterday I was at my friends house yesterday and she has
a pl*co who when sucking on tank straight up and down (top to bottom) has to
bend his tail, he is in a 55g tank, she is trying to convince me to put him
in my 120g, but he is such a monster I don't know, but I loved just watching
him he looked so neat.

No i did not really know but do have tanks that can hold them when they get
there....I'm the one with the empty 120g because i have not got around to it
yet......
I guess they get much bigger then the blue gouramis then? my blue is still
not very big, i thought he would get bigger then what he is...that is why he
is still in the 40g
Thanks for the info, i guess its something i should have known, i always go
on and on telling people why they should not be buying pacu's not knowing
about how big they get ect...i got my first pacu when i was young way before
having kids, last one died last year and he was a monster

*Note: There are TWO "Koi-Lo's" on this NG*
The kissing gourami's can get quite large, larger than all the others I've
seen in stores or people's tanks. My pearl gourami's got nearly 6" long
after a few years. They were in a 55g tank.

yeah as long as I let him.....he likes to think he has some say, as long as
I find cichlids I like they will go in that tank.....when we *I* started
tanks again he said I just want one tank with fish I want, I said yeah ok
when we get another big tank, not thinking we would, now we have one...but
he works 72 hours a week.. kind of hard for him to go buy fish so he has to
count on me to get them for him, he wants some blue lobster also, he has
wanted a cichlid tank since seeing my fathers years back took up one wall
and had caves and stuff in it, he had some very nice cichlids in it, so I
think that is kind of what he is thinking about. we will see
