Algae growth on fish

Can anyone let me know if algae growing on fish is detrimental or if it
often occurs following winter?

I have two blue orfe who have some algae / blanket weed which seems to have
attached them. My other fish; koi, Goldfish, comets, shubunkins, golden orfe
remain unaffected. The fish look healthy otherwise. I have only just begum
feeding wheatgerm to the fish. the pond is more or less clear water with
some short blanket weed on th esides only. my pond is located in Scotland.

Are you sure it's algae and not a bacterial or fugal infection the algae is
attached to?

Never thought about it being a bacterial infection. Do you think it would be
best to leave for a couple of weks to see if it clears up or remove the fish
and have a closer look? the fish is fairly big and appears to be Ok
otherwise.

algae usually follows an infection on the skin. try a bit of salt, 0.9 lbs per 100
gallons. use rock salt with no additives. Ingrid
