Guppy specs(babies) are Krib food... I learned that by mistake.... not
actually a mistake, I just didn't see that one coming.

I took the babies from the girl at work's tank, had about 20 or so specs...
Bagged them up, took them home... and within 2 minutes after floating(10m)
and dumping, they were all gone.... Kribs went bezerk over them.... Not sure
if was just natural for them to do so, or they were just being cichlids....
but whatever it was, it was quick....

So I ask, can I use guppy specs AS live food for kribs? Is it a good or bad
thing?

Hit nail on head. They were just being cichlids. You provided them
with a food source they would take advantage of in the wild. I
wouldn't recommend using live fish as a staple food, but rather as an
occasional supplement.

The wife didn't like the 'concept' of live food and I mentioned that it
would only happen maybe 1x every other month or so, and I wasn't attached to
the specs, so in the future, it might be a good supplement like you said...

From a disease perspective, it is highly NOT recommended to use feeders
for live food. Some people have Guppy tanks and the fry need to be
culled (for undesirable characteristics). A cichlid tank is then
convenient for this purpose, and safe (for the cichlids, not the Guppies
;~).

From a behavioural perspective, fish fed live feeders will generally be
more aggressive to tank-mates, and may become picky eaters when offered
processed foods. It can also affect their ability to efficiently raise
their own fry, as the distinction between their fry and introduced fry
will blur their 'code of ethics' (don't eat the kids). I think that this
is more pronounced with smaller cichlids than with larger cichlids, but
probably because of the size differences between fry & feeders.

They aren't totally disease free, but haven't seen any signs, so the
assumption has been made....

With that in mind, I"ll probably curb my desire to cull future herds....
Instead, a store credit I will try and get...

Thanks NetMax, I'd rather have good Krib parents....
