View Full Version : gourami or angel eating plants

Cant think of the name of the plant, its a common plant, looks like long
tall grass just thicker, any way I have it in my gourami & angel tank, some
one is eating it, I have replaced it twice, the first time I thought I must
have done something wrong and it died, this time I been watching and noticed
its being nibbled on at the bottom, so when it gets chewed all the way
through the rest floats to the top of the tank. which fish is more then
likely doing it?
Nik
pl*co in the tank also but he does not go by the plants, they are more or
less just in his way.
Happy mothers day...

Does your pl*co have natural wood to chew on? If there is no wood,
some pl*cos will chew on anything, including plants, plastic
ornaments, and the silicone sealant at the corners of the tank.

Angels will sometime harm plants by persistent cleaning of a leaf
surface preparatory to spawning, but you describe the damage as near
the base of the plant, and that's not a likely place for an angel to
choose to spawn.

I only use enough rock to cover the bottom, which I am aware is not enough
for plants but I put enough rock by the plant to hold it down. I will get
more rock soon, but no the plant is just covered with enough to keep it
there. My father just got me a mothers day present...two more angels and two
clown loaches, hum, I got a place for the angels, but what do clown loaches
get along with? I guess I can set up another tank, I am going to look it up
now.

That sounds ok then. Keep the gravel out of the center of the plant if the
leaves come up from a center area.

My clowns got along with everything. I never once saw them bother the other
fish in any way.

Check the center or crown of the plant and remove any rocks or gravel the
fish may have moved there.

Hi Nikki,

Clown loaches get on with most fish....although there have been reports
of them munching on tetras....the key to Clown Loaches is the more the
merrier and plenty of places for them to hide.....you need to make sure
that the tank is large enough for them as well...and I forget the size
of your tank....

Bear in mind that these great fish will freak you out to start with -
their behaviour and habits are interesting to say the very least...read
up on www.loaches.com to get more info....clicking, greying out and
playing dead on the substrate....but you will never, ever have a snail
problem again....munch, munch....

Watch out for ich....Clowns are prone to it....which is a good reason to
QT them because you need to treat the whole tank once it turns up....

Enjoy your Clowns....I love mine to bits...they are great characters and
each troupe is unique :-)

My 120g is not ready for fish yet, i am trying to get the plant stuff tanken

At the moment i have set up
10g guppy tank w/ apple snails

39g high tank w/ 1 adult blue gourami, 2 baby blue gourami, 4 baby angels, 1
pleco (angels will be going to the 120g) this tank has a few plants, big
rock, drift wood
-----------
30g long w/ lots of female bettas, this tank has rocks and caves
---------------
40g long w/ fancy gold fish, black moor, telescope eye and alike, 2 apple
snails
---------------------
10g w/ around 100 baby betta's
and an empty 10g its set up w/ nothing in it at the moment.

Yep, you need to put them in the big tank....get another 3 at least to
fully appreciate them but I do urge caution about mixing new Clowns with
ones that you know are healthy - sadly, been there and done it and have
lost a lot of this wonderful fish to ich....so take care....

Once you own Clown Loaches I'm sure that you will become an
addict....you will not meet one Clown Loach owner on this forum that is
not nuts about them....You do need to read up on them though so please
check out the website I gave you....you could possibly short-term keep
some in the 39g but you need to be ready to move them....

I just love it when someone starts on the Clown Loach adventure.....you
will just so, so love them

At this moment I have them in a 2g tank, I been adding more water from the
39g every half hour, so they adjust.
Yes I will keep them in the 39g until the 120g is ready for fish. I found
this place a while back its called oddball, he is more of a breeder, not a
store, he has this place... the first floor has over 200 tanks then on the
second floor he has more for breeding, mostly angels and rare cichlids, and
discus, he said he would never and has never ordered these fish, they have
all been born and raised by him, his tanks are well kept (however I don't
know how you do it with all those tanks) he has some huge fish.
Since I have been buying from him I have never QT a fish, and am yet to have
a problem, I would not do that if I got fish any other place. I talked to
him today about the angel disease, he spent at least a hour talking to me
about his experience and what he knew about it, he has been breeding for
some years. I did ask how long he has had the loaches he said for over a
month and has not had a problem, which is good. After finding his place I
would never go any other place. when I get more this week they will be from
the same batch these little guys were with.
thanks gill
i will let you know how it goes

few others?
Roy, as I said.... I don't get involved, I am replying to you because you
addressed me. First I don't care about my address being posted...I have
teen's, who are to lazy to change over to their own email account, I can
tell who is on my computer by how much junk I have...I have enough to share
with everyone
I have been posting here for quite some time, when all this stuff got out of
hand, I went back though all the posts, people changing their names and
using many different names to post so they could write things and not have
to take responsibility for it, it goes back before 2002, while I did not
read all of it because with three kids I don't have that much extra time,
but it was not hard to see what happened, and why people are mad. But that
is no reason to pull other people into something they have nothing to do
with. If you want to be rude to me, by all means do it, but i dont think i
am the one you have a problem with, and unlike some others i am not going to
fight with someone over something i have nothing to do with. You try and
have a nice day : )
