New pond owner Wanna be

Hi everyone (except the smut peddlers) First, I have never had a pond and
know nothing. I am considering building a 500 gallon pond and need help
selecting a filter. I have decided on a uv filter and would like some help
deciding between Sunterra, Fishmate, and Cyprio. Any and all opinions would
be of great help. I have just found this group and feel it is a shame about
the posters that have such a poor life style that they have nothing better
to do than inflict their simple world onto the people who are striving to
learn. Thanks for your time Tom

I have the Tetra filters and UV lights. I found both excellent products. I
didn't care for the Tetra pumps because the shaft needs replacement which
can take months on-order. I've switched to Becketts and Supreme water
pumps. So far so good.

That's not possible anymore when ISP's do nothing about malicious trolls.
You can filter most of them out and will quickly learn to avoid those
wasting your time by not downloading their messages. When they drive decent
people off they feel they've won.

There's no such thing as a UV filter. Please don't think for a moment that
a UV system is going to filter anything. What it does (if it works) is
kill algae. The dead algae still contributes to the organic load in your
pond. You _still_ need a real filter. Veggie filters are large, compared
to the size of the pond, but they can also be ornamental. In any case,
what a filter is doing, essentially, is capturing organic material so that
you can remove it from the pond. Unless you extract somewhat more organic
material from the pond than you actually feed to your fish, things are
going to go downhill (and if you're feeding 'zero' to the fish, you still
have to account for the various organics that arrive on the wind).

Yep filters mainly keyed in on Koi-Lo. As new needs arise for other
filters trust us, we will make a post and advise all of the need to
change filters. This usenet hsa more Koi lo's than Carter has liver
pills........I wonder why.............I guess its time to get back
into my Koi-Lo mode......I mademy point without the kill filters
taking their toll.........
Good advice their Jan......it won't be long now and thnis forum is
gonna be back to normal.....Of oucrse there are probably gonna be a
few T'd off individuals mainly those that live over the northern
border, but they will get over it or they can create their own
rec.ponds.ca forum..........

I CARE about my reasons! By changing my NYM it takes away most of their

sorry, there doesnt seem to be any way to "take it back" except kill file.
UV units are not filters. they do help clear up the pea soup.
you need another kind of filter for the wastes. some use mechanical filters like
"Skippy" filters, home made, or a purchased one, others (like me) use a veggie filter

Actually I am happy I can get tons of spam and it doesn't bother me at all.
2 minutes is a piece of cake for me and I expect I can handle an e-mail bomb
within 20 minutes and this all makes spam obsolete for me. I don't mind 2
minutes a day at all and this way I can freely give out my e-mail address,
the spam just gets deleted without me worrying one grey hair. The guppies
are doing great - just about to make another trip to the lfs to donate
another ton of them, hopefully for store credit. :-) I agree - guppies like
somewhat hard water and might be just the thing. Happy aquarium keeping to

that ever since easily figuring out the headers I have had no use for a kill
file or other filter for the newsgroups. In my opinion the only real use for
a kill file filter for newsgroups is so people with an easily upset stomach
not to see what would otherwise upset their stomach. A Bayesian spam filter
has totally freed my soul (so to speak, not literally of course) and my
e-mail address is easily redistributable now which gives me a lot of freedom
too. I am all for the development of newsgroup filters but quite frankly I
have no use for one at the very least for now. I'll never need to kill-file
koi-lo now. Roy and fezz are crying like babies now - boooo hooo, (Ha ha ha
ha ha! About time karma is starting to work against those damned trolls!).

their ISPs don't provide Usenet _at all_. That's becoming very common.
Mine doesn't and I use individual.net - mostly because they were free when
I started and still pretty reasonable, but also because a lot of the spam

almost guarantee a one fish one kill affair, so it shold be rather
painless for him or as you call him an illiterate asshole. I can
certainly see you calling CArol an illiterate asshole putting these
groups anbd people through this **** for her own vanity and image (big
joke huh?) but why would you call such a staunch supporter of you and
CArol an illiterate asshole? Inquiring minds want to know.......And
the amount of friends y ou have is notimportant, its the quality of
freinds you have, and myb friends are of exceptional quality.....and
those types are few and far between. If freinds were measured in
numbers I hate to see what would be included in some folks list of
frieinds.....Remember Danny, its quality not quanity.........
