G'Day All,

I've just purchased a 4 ft tank mainly for my red ramshorn snails to
live in.

I would like some ideas on plants to put into the tank, maybe add a
bit of colour, I'd like it to be a feature in my dining area at home.

I've already got some Java Moss, but would like a few "grass like"
plants for the foreground. maybe some "larger" plants for the
background.

I'll probably get some fish (Neon Tetras etc) at an later date after
the tank eco system is established.

Can I have your thoughts on this please?

Cheers,

Ben.

You can plant valisneria along the back with a few Amazon swords in the
middle area. Mini hair-grass if you can find it would look good towards the
front. A low growing crypt or two would also be fitting.

I like the various crypts. C. wendtii grows like
a weed once established, doesn't require a lot
of light or CO2 injection. Java Fern looks great
growing on driftwood and also doesn't require
a lot of light or CO2. My plants get food from
the fish food & fish poop, and I also add some
liquid fert. but nothing scientific. I tend to
"keep" plants that can survive my laissez faire
approach.

You might check to see which plants are local to
you then read up on them to see which you prefer.

There's a plant specific newsgroup,
rec.aquaria.freshwater.plants if you get it,
for more questions.

I like the idea of adding some Neon Tetras.
They will add color.
