View Full Version : Adding Filtration to Eclipse setup

Hi all ...

For the past 4 years, I have had a 60g show tank with 2 Eclipse hoods.
I've been toying with the idea of adding a canister filter to the mix.
Would it be ok to add a canister filter in addition to the wet/dry
system already in place via the Eclipse hoods? Can there ever be too
much filtration? <g>

Thanks!

Too much filtration...Nope.
However, too much current, yes.

Bummer. Too much current then.

I'd really really like crystal clear water, and I've never had it for
an extended period of time with the filtration provided by the Eclipse
hoods. I only have a total of 5 fish (1 Oscar, 1 Bala Shark, 3 Clown
Loaches)so it's not an over population issue. Water tests fine.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

You sound like a prime candidate for a diatom filter--this
will give you the crystal clear water you crave. They are
a bit pricey, but really, really work.

I use my diatom filter about once a month and run it for a few hrs. It works
very well and does produce crysral clear water. The fish seem more active
and hungrier too after i use it. I have heard NOT to run them full time
though because they filter too much out the of water and clog easily.
