Hi all

I have one goldfish that seems to have gotten dropsy. Swiming upsideown on
its side ect. The last time the fish were fed was on friday morning. I
went away and came back to a sick fish. It's in a 10 gal with 1 other
goldfish, 1 Pleco and 1 Cory Cat.. I know about the not mixing of tropical
fish and gold fish, but the cats are refugees. I figured they are better in
my tank then where they were. I have started to raise the water temp and
want to add some epsom salt. Is this OK to do with the Cory Cat and the
Pleco? I could take them out and put them in a container of some sort if
the salt will be a problem. But I'm worred that would cause all kinds of
problems in tis own right. Also how much epsom salt should I add to a 10
gall tank?

Thanks
Bean

You're overstocked, goldfish need approx 10 gallons each.
Thats probably why, check water parameters and correct as necessary.
I wouldn't add salt with a cory, not 100% sure with a plec.
Get a 40 gallon if you want to keep all these fish without major hassle.

Sorry to say, I've never had a fish recover from Dropsy... 3 times, on
cichlids, 2 times on german blue rams, not one of them ever made it... It
was always narrowed back to water quality, and/or water problems. I've
tried Em tabs, Tetracycline, Clout and several other broad spectrum
antibiotics, none of them worked.

There is some information on this site about dropsy & claims that it can be
cured. Dropsy isn't a problem I've encountered (yet!), but it may be worth
a try. Good luck.
