I need to drain my swimming pool and am wondering if there is a way to
neutralize the copper and other nasty stuff to the point that i could
drain it down my hill without killing trees and plants. Any
suggestions?

For chlorine, aquarium de-chlorinators will remove chlorine & chloramine.
Use the pond version (concentrated to treat larger amounts of water).

For copper, many de-chlorinators de-toxify heavy metals, though I don't
understand why you would have a lot of copper in your pool, or even if
the de-toxifying method used is permanent enough (after the water has
evaporated). You might be asking in the wrong place.

Activated Carbon will remove copper from water.

If he's really that worried about copper, how about filling up a pool
filter with carbon? You can also use Start Right crystals.. a 9lb jug
will treat 4,320g

Copper in and of itself would only be a problem if the Ph was on the
acidic side. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Why bother? let the pool sit in the sun for a week or two, and there
will be no chlorine or chloramine left. Both breaks down and outgasses
into air sooner or later.

My swimming pool (450000 liter ) is full of koi. :)

As far as I know, Chloramine will not.
The chlorine will, but then you'll be left with ammonia.

I don't know, maybe because in the time it takes to neutralise
chloramines, the inactivity, plus the UV, and the extra ammonia, he might
end up with pea soup ;~).

450,000 litres of Koi? I just set up a 1,000 litre Koi tub (filled it
with Bangkok Koi). What I could do with 450,000 litres,.. mua ha ha.

ha.

Erm, sorry about that. That is actually 45000 liters. Swimming pool
size. I shudder to think how big a 450 000 liter pool (or koi pond)
will be. Anybody for recreating lake Malawi in my backyard?

I have 250 million liters of native fish in my back yard. It's called a
river .

It really shouldn't be a problem. If you're really worried about it go
to your local pool supply store and pick up a dechlorinator made by
Baquacil (not all retailers carry it, Leslie's is a national chain so
you might have one by you). They also make a chelating agent to
detoxify metals.
