What a treat! My angels are breeding!
My 260 gallon tank now is the home to a pair of breeding angels. I am now
shopping for a 20 gallon tank to put them in when they breed again. I am
so excited about my first breeders that I am getting rid of my egg eating
gouramis.
Anyone have any pointers on raising the fry that I haven't already read on
thekrib?

Congrats! = )
Tips are different depending on whether you are going to raise them, or if
you'll let them raise them.
Either way, keep them warm, and their bellies full at all times.
Bare bottom tank and no "helpers" in the tank. Even a Cory or a snail can wipe
out a batch of fry at night.
The fry will "bed down" in a group and sleep. It's so neat to watch the parents
bed the fry down for the night....you can almost hear them saying...settle down
now kids and go to sleep. = )~
Any type of cleanup crew can come across them at night and "hoover" them up in
a few seconds.
Live plants are wonderful to have too.

You're lucky, I've been trying to get mine to breed for awhile, i
guess they are just not "fish soulmates" They are my favrites in the
tank anyway!

That is great news. I am waiting for mine to do it too. On an off
note tho my Festivums have spawned twice. One lays the eggs and the
other eats them :( I hope that they get it right one day.

Mild tempered South American cichlid often found in the same
waters as Angels. Used to be called Ciclasloma festivum, now it's
anyone's guess where a Cichlisoma is classified. Take a look at

They are Mesonauta festivus also called flag, barred or festive
cichlids. They grow to about 4.1 in (altho I have heard that they can
get larger) and are found co-existing in the wild with angels. They
are peaceful and along with keyhole's make great tankmates with angels
and rams.
I highly recomend them and mine are just as friendly as my angels and
eat from my hand. :)

I have a couple of Festivums too. But even they are peacefull, i have to be
careful. My festivum can chase any smaller fish. He killed one rasbora
already. I tried to matched with another festium but the bigger one is quiet
aggresive....I think all depends on size of tank and enough hidding places.
I am planning to increase the plant load and reintroduce the smaller
festivum

Thanks. The link was great. I am even more interested in this fish now.
I hope my LFS can get a hold of them.

The info on that link was erroneous - Festivums require soft - med hard
water & tanks over 50 gallons!
Mine grew from 1" to 5" in a year.
They also spend most of there time in mid to upper levels of a 24" deep tank
& checking with others this does seem to be the norm.
Once they are settled they develop a blue/green iridescent sheen over much
of their bodies. Like angels they sometimes bicker with others of their own
species.

My tank is 30" deep and 260 gallons. Sounds like a match made in heaven.
I am trying to get the gouramis and sword tails out now. Since the Angels
started spawning I am no longer interested in keeping that style of fish
in the tank. I want the angels and festivums. I never knew I could get
such nice fish for my freshwater tank.
