View Full Version : loss of scales

A couple fish were involved in a territorial dispute with some larger
inhabitants of the tank, which caused them to loose a large amount of scales
on the sides of the body. Just curious if there was any additive available
to speed regrowth of scales.

I'm also looking for some additive to protect the exposed areas from fungus,
etc. Or is it a matter of if so many scales have been removed that the fish
will die anyways even with preventative measures? The one fish is stripped
clean down in a 1/2 cubic inch area, fungus has already started to form as
there's no scales or protective slime. The other fish has bare areas, no
fungal growth yet.

I've added melafix and stress coat so far, haven't started with any meds yet
until I know what will work.

Thanks

Here is some information about disease and injury:
http://faq.thekrib.com/disease-fw.html#diseases

I think you should read the "Injuries" and "Fin rot" sections as that
would pertain to your situation. In my little experience, I haven't
needed to do anything about missing scales, but it was only 1 or 2 scales
missing, not anything like your fish.
