View Full Version : Betta fry foods?

Okay, y'all. I have some betta fry, just became free-swimming. I've
searched all over my area for Liquifry, and can find none. No microworms,
either. I've started culturing infusoria, but I started late *mutters at
self* Now, I've heard that one can use egg yolk to feed the fishies, but I
have no idea how. I've heard putting it into a handkerchief and dipping it
in the tank, straining it through the cloth, but I've also heard that it has
to be cooked and I'm not sure how. Boiled? Fried? Scrambled? What kind?
Or just raw? (Raw sounds like a lousy idea, but I'm not sure.) Yes, I
know, one should only use this as a last resort, but I'm at the "last
resort" stage at the moment. So. Any information? Hints? Tips? Thanks
ever so much.

Here is all I've heard about egg yolk from the Aquaria Breeding FAQ"

"There are also commercial fry foods that work or, in desperate
situations, cooked egg yolk. Be careful, though, because non-living foods
pollute the tank water terribly -- especially egg yolk."

also about Bettas pertaining to housing:

"Betta breeders have even more work on their hands, since the little male
bettas will fight and have to be put into separate jars or a partitioned
tank."

Well boiled egg, slice open and take a tiny bit of the egg yolk out to
drop into the tank. I hope they are still doing ok. Newborn fry don't
usually go a complete day without food and survive (unless their yolk
sacs were still present). Feed often and sparingly.
