fin rot??

i have 2 silver dollars and one of them seems to have some of its dorsal fin
missing like it was torn?? what can i do???

Torn is a bite mark or some other type of mechanical damage. Do nothing
but be prepared to use an anti-fungal medication.

Eaten away, dissolving or split ends is a bacterial infection (fin rot).
Check water parameters for stressors and use antibiotics (or other
fin-rot medication).

I would remove the charcoal from the filter and use Melafix. It is
safe to fish and promotes fin healing. Aquarium salt is something
else I add to the water. I don't have silver dollars and don't know
if the salt is good for them, but Melafix is safe for all fish so far
as I know.
