Aquarium cleaning

Hi friends. A friend of mine recently gave me a 29 gal. tank that it
2-3 years old and seems to be in good shape, although there is some of
(what appears to be) mineral buildup in areas of the glass that
scrubbing doesn't seem to remove. Does anybody have a recommendation
as to the best thing to use to remove it? It probably isn't all that
noticeable under water, but it bugs me and I want to start with an
absolutely clean tank.

White Vinegar wil dissolve the mineral build up, and if that does
not work use the CLR product commonly sold in most grocery or big box
stores....Vinegar will clean what needs to be cleaned and dissolve
99% of everything trhat needs to be removed......So will lemon juice.

Lemnon juice is dirt cheap (real lemon in imitation plastic squeeze
lemon less than a buck or a quart of white vinegar about 75 cents
works just as good as CLR which is $3>

Lime-Away or CLR are my favorites. I had little luck with vinegar and the
smell is disgusting and lingering. A small nail brush or old toothbrush
works well to remove the softened deposits on small or tight areas. A
veggie brush or tank cleaner pad on the glass.

White vinegar heated up a bit in the microwave should
do the trick. It might take several applications and
some scrubbing but it's easy to rinse out - multiple
rinses with cold water, of course.
I'm assuming there are no fish in there yet... :)

I recently cleaned out a 10g I found in my parents garage (bonus!). It
had some scum on it. Tried vinegar... worked ok. I then just took a
razor blade and scraped the glass. I can tell where I missed because it
worked very well. This may not work on mineral buildup due to
scratching, but I was fortunate not to leave and knicks or scratches.
Nothing beats the blade. If you try the blade on an empty tank, try the
bottom first as it will most likely be covered in substrate in case you
need to hide scratches.
