My axolotls have decided to get friendly!
I've found eggs everywhere today!
Now I've read the advice on breeding at Caudata's website,
but I'd like to know if anyone has any anecdotes they can
offer - are they likely to eat each other? Is it ok to
partition off the tank and have babies in one part, adults
in another (3 adults in a 3 foot tank)? Any ideas welcome!
It's hard to get 'lotls hereabouts, and so if I can raise
them (and sell them or at least rehome them) I will do - I
could probably wangle another tank for a little while as long
as it really IS temporary or Da Bloke will complain - but
anyone who can share experience, please do!
I reassured myself that they might not be fertilised, before
I read that the male releases sperm and some time later THEN
the woman lays. And some are turning to little curly shapes
already!
If anyone's interested, it's an albino mum and a wildtype
dad. This means the eggs are white but I think should turn
wildtype later... we shall see.
Well it will be interesting if nothing else. Terrible timing
on the part of the 'lotls, but they probably are enjoying
the spring sunshine ;)
