Stingray

I notice that a friend's stingray just sits at the bottom of the tank
virtually motionless all day long. The ray is about 12" diameter and
the tank is about 16" wide by 8' long. I am wondering if the tank is
too small for the ray. Is it normal for the ray to just lie at the
bottom of the tank all day and not really swim around?

Basically yes, it should move arounnd and eat when food is in the tank. What
species is it?
