View Full Version : lonely fish

I had two goldfish, and after about seven years, one of them died. I had
expected the other one to go soon after, and I didn't want to upset it
futher by introducing new, younger fish to his tank, so I left him on his
own. Now five years on, he is still happily swimming around. I'm concerned
that he might be lonely. Am I being really cruel to him, or would he attack
or be attacked by other fish?

Goldfish like the company of another GF. But if he's happy alone all this
time why take a chance of introducing a disease or parasites that can kill
or sicken him?

Thanks. He seems happy enough (Well, he is a fish, so gauging happyness and
sadness is not that clear cut). I just wanted confirmation that I'm not
being hugely cruel - effectively torturing him, without knowing it.

We can't really know what they feel but if they're active, eating well and
acting normal then I would say they're doing ok alone. Although in a pond
they will mostly swim around in groups, I do see them sometimes off by
themselves.
