View Full Version : Do I clean a goldfish tank?

June 9th 06, 12:53 AM
We have just adopted two goldfish. I read quite a bit before we got
them, and think I know how to care for them with water changes,
filtration, and regular siphoning of debris, but for one thing. Is
there ever a time when you clean the whole tank, taking the fish out
and scrubbing everything? I remember doing this as a kid, but then, I
also remember keeping goldfish in a little bowl (where they lived for
seven or eight years, as I remember), so I'm not sure what to do.

No. That shouldn't be necessary if you vacuum the gravel and do regular
partial water changes.

not a tank. actually, the good bacteria and algae grow on the walls of the tank and
should not be scrubbed off (except the front viewing area). Ingrid
