View Full Version : Swordtail fry growth

I have recently been given some swordtail fry which I am keeping in a
breeding trap which floats in my tank. They've been in there a few weeks
now. My question is, should I be moving them to a larger trap at some point
to enable them to grow, or are they OK as they are? I cannot let them swim
in the tank freely as yet, since the other fish are rather keen to eat them.
The trap they are in presently isn't all that big and I am wondering if that
will hinder their growth at all.
Thanks for advice.

It was my experience years ago that fish grow very slowly in these traps.
If you can afford another tank or even a clear plastic tote from Wal*Mart
with a cheap bubble-up filter, their growth rate would increase
dramatically. Do plenty of partial water changes and feed them often.

Oh wow, I keep mine in the toilet tank.Jusyt plut a screen over the
flush portion opening so they don;t take the one way trip down the
big tube. Naw size has nothing to do with how big they get, I have
one that grew up in a thimble.............and its doing just fine.

Wat size are they at the moment? I was in the same situation as you are now. Mine were only 4cm when i added them to the main tank. I was worried about my red tailed black shark attacking them but he didnt, and now they are as happy as can be.
