I am treating my 10-gallon tank (Platys and Corydoras, no live plants,
moderate amount of green algae) with Maracyn-Two and Quick Cure
(formalin/malachite green) because of a 1/16" diameter white spot on the
head of one of the Platys. I've been treating for just over a week and I
think that the white spot is fading, but it is hard to tell.
The mechanical filter insert (fiberglass batting) on my Penguin Mini keeps
getting clogged with "slime". The filter insert feels slimy and water
passes through the overflow instead of through the filter and on to the
bio-wheel. I put in a new filter a week ago, with the charcoal removed,
when I started medicating.
Is this sort of slime build-up typical during medication, or do I have
something else going on? Should I do something about the slime?
