Whats best to use? Leaving for a week.

Ill be going out of town for a week. I want to leave the fish the best
possible way to feed. The store reccomends those 7 day feeders but I have
read on here at various times that those are actually bad and sometimes even
kill the fish. Ill be going out tomorow to get what I need. Any
reccomendations?

Some folks have reported not feeding for a week is ok. Feeders,
mechanical or people, are unreliable.

There are people who don't feed their fish the week they're on vacation. We
always have someone "house sit" while we're away so they feed ours for us.
Prepackage all the food so they don't overfeed if you do have someone come
in while you're gone.

Jeff,

I've also heard bad things about the white blocks you drop in the tank. I
know they are made of calcium, so if you're concerned about water hardness
as I am with tetras, they are not an option.

I think most fish will survive just fine for 1 week with no food. I have an
automatic feeder that I always use. Picked it up for about $20 and works
well feeding twice per day an amount of flake food that you set. There are
other more expensive models that are programable and have multiple
compartments for feeding different types of food at different times.

didn't do yourself any favours with the brief question there mate.
If ya keep moray eels I find a little school of potty mullet does the trick.
Half a zuccini is half a plan for a big goldy in a pond
Heck I chuck chicken carcass's onto the bird netting above me breeder ponds
if I have to go away for a month or so.
Da maggots fall thru the wire and slow release feed me fishys.
million contraptions and plans but yea without species, size and other
details how do we know what to reccomend?

If all else fails chuck a 7 day feeder in from the store.
Just do a 25% water change before ya bail. Bad water kills far more fish
than hunger.
