Are there such creatures around? I'd like to have some koi in a large
tank in my home, but not if I have to build a swimming pool-

Some might call a goldfish a miniature koi.

They sure act very similar, but even goldfish get quite large.

With Koi big is beautiful, so more emphasis on developing super jumbo breeds
than mini-me's!
If you can find someone with a pond, you can give them your koi when they
get too large for your large tank.
Personally I find a nice white butterfly koi one of the most beautiful fish
you can keep in a fishtank.
Sort of like a chinese dragon
Anyway when they get too big off they go to a pond.
Small koi (2 or 3 inch) are cheap enuf after all to replace and it's a
strange ponder that doesn't like to recieve some nice fattened up fishys.
Just get good quality ones, nothing harder to get rid of than boring grass
carp!!
otherwise yea, go the goldys
