I shouldn't bother with the Internet as delivery on sand products will be
expensive. Why not drop down to Jewsons or B&Q? They have the same stuff and
it is cheaper because it's not sold specifically for aquarium use. Just make
sure you rinse it well before use.

Is it exactly the same? Is it sold as silver sand or under some other name?
Or is it silver sand just plain old sand marketed to fishy people?

Hmmm, good question. I have always bought my sand either from Early Learning
Centre or Jewsons. A 25kg bag of sand at Jewsons costs about £3.50, now
compare that to your local aquatic dealer! A lot of things in the aquarium
industry are over zealously marketed to people who are sometimes a little
paranoid about whether the health of their fish will be affected. The only
problem with silver sand is it is light and will take a week or two to "bed
in" and become a darker shade.

done some more digging...silver sand is just lime free silica sand (fine
grade)so I'll be popping down to Jewson and give it a wash before use!
