"Kept properly, these are magnificent fish, and though short-lived, will
grace your tanks for two to three years," is the only thing I "sort of"
disagree with. Although a few may die sooner, most of mine live 4 years,
some a few months more. I don't keep records anymore of the actual dates I
buy them.

I don't know what to attribute that to except perhaps the variety of foods I
feed my fish and cooler temperatures. Our house stays around 76F year
round. Warmer in the day, a bit cooler at night. My husband's a heat
lover.

Thanks for checking it out.
The living for two to three years is too general. They could have said
it like the average is 2-3 yrs (I believe it is more like 2-4), but
some may live several years longer.

That would be more accurate for sure. That is if the betta is young when
purchased. A new PetsMart opened up in a huge Plaza near us. I went to
check it out and they had at least 50 bettas in a new type of holding
system. It was above the bottom row of tanks and well lit. Most of these
fish looked "mature." I would guess between 18 months and 2 years old. I
prefer to buy them as young adults. These many be the ones that live less
than 4 years for people. Again, this is just a guess. I don't that for a
fact.

* I'd say that they do live longer in cooler water
just something I have noticed
but they also get sick easier in cooler water
so it's a catch 22 IMHO

Abosultely, Swarvegorilla. IMO, the downfalls of cooler water don't
outweigh living a little longer.

I would definitely go with 2 to 4 years. Better yet 3 to 4 years. That of
course is assuming the fish is a young adult.

Unless water conditions are really good, I believe this is probably true.
