View Full Version : Spirulina wafers not a big hit

I bought some new food for the inmates today, Spirulina wafers, Algae wafers
and sinking wafers. They've had the sinking wafers before and they were a
hit. But the Spirulina wafers don't seem so successful, especially with the
SAEs. I'll have to try them in the office tank.
On a sad note, I lost another Golden Rosy Barb today. No sign of infection,
swelling or injury. It was only about 18 months old, my time. I guess it
could be Barbicide, but I haven't lost any Tetras to foul play. It was
wedged between a large Sword leaf and the glass. I suppose it might have
gotten stuck, but I doubt it.

The down side to having fish. I lost a pet angelfish this week.
Found her in the morning lying on the gravel, a pleco was stripping
her side and an SAE nibbling at her tail fin. She was still
breathing. She had learned to come to the far side of the feeding
area expecting to receive her own flakes.
After over 3 years of having this beautiful one occupying stage
center, it looks empty, even though stage center is now fully occupied
by the rest of the fish in the tank.
I used to really worried that I was doing something wrong the first
year. But, over the years I found they died without symptoms, without
any others dying at the same time and spread out with months passing
without a loss.
I have also been surprised to have fish live for months and even a
year looking each day would be their last. One really was impressive:
a White Cloud, part of my original stock 3 1/2 years ago. First she
developed a bend in her spine, then her flotation bladder went
haywire, she learned to swim to the bottom, then slowly float to the
top. Finally, tumors appeared on her belly. Through it all she joined
into the feeding frenzy. I would cheer her on as she sped toward a
sinking flake feeling angry when a faster fish took it first. She
always got her flake eventually.
Life and death, can't have one without the other.

I put some Algae wafers in the office tank and got loads of Snails. Wow, I
didn't know I had so many. I know how to catch them now. The Otos also came
out for a feed. I haven't seen them all in one place for a while.
