1 Male, 3 females.... 4 months later, and no babies....

What does that sound like... a sterile male? Females have had 4 batches up
and until this male was purchased.... 2 batches since, the females are empty
and he's not loaded with good ammo....

Any ideas?

If your water quality is good & the females are healthy & not too old, then
I'd say your male is the problem.

The females are proven, but the male isn't... too bad...

can anyone recommend a good guppy genetics book/website.

I've had 1 beautiful male (bought as "turquoise" although he's purple)
and a wild type unmarked female in it for a while... I've been
removing the adolescent males and letting purple papa go at it trying
to reinforce his genetic makeup but so far all the boys look like
regular wild type feeders. (although there is a bit more turquoise in
their tails.)

Other than getting a fancy female, what should i do to encourage the
purple genes. (They aren't dyeing guppies these days are they?)

Not really going for "show" quality here... just a tank of nice
looking fish... not to disparage the wild looking ones.. ;)

Perhaps I should remove the largest female and only let him breed with
stock which is already half his genetic stock?

Can I butt in? I had when I started playing with guppies, a male that I
thought was great... Cobra tailed neon green/yellow, and 3 plain jane
females... After he had his way with the girls, I pulled him and put him in
another tank with great looking females... the pretty females didn't make
any pretty babies, probably from stored sperm, but the females that he had
that were empty, were gorgeous...

I can only surmize that after 2 or 3 batches, the offspring get somewhat
diffused colors and not as great of an appearance...

Another problem I had, was when a female became bigger than the male, she
stopped producing, would get pregnant, but would never have fry, ingestion
or whatever... I've got 1 tank that just has 3 large females, no babies, but
I'm not sure why...

These are the reasons we/I miss Jim Brown...

hmm... my newsfeed didn't get this message, but i found it on google
groups.

>>the pretty females didn't make any pretty babies, probably from
>>stored sperm

I let the female have 1-2 litters before i started letting the fry
stay in the tank. How long can the gups store sperm?

I've found one page that says 8 broods... perhaps i should take "Eve"
out and start again with some of the older fry not exposed to mature
males other than "Adam".

I guess this will happen naturally and i shouldn't be too
concerned since i'm not breeding for show... ;)

Last I had broods, it was 3 good batches, and 1 very small, so maybe
somewhere between 3 and 5...

I tried to do what you're doing... for me, I just didn't have time to follow
4 females, their batches, and who had been with who... moving adam and eve
to john and nancy's tank, blah blah....
